We help with benefits, housing applications, access to civil and criminal justice and with referrals to other organisations if you need their specialist support. We are here to let you find your feet again and will work with you to support you every step of the way. Everything we provide is free – there will be no charge for it.

Men's Health Forum in Ireland

Ireland

Men, on the island of Ireland, experience a disproportionate burden of ill-health. The Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) is a diverse network of individuals and organisations, men and women, which seeks to:

  • identify the key concerns relating to male health;
  • increase understanding of these issues;
  • address the impact of this inequality.
  • MHFI works on an all-Ireland basis to enhance the health and well-being of men and boys through research, awareness raising, training, networking and practical demonstration projects. The work of MHFI is heavily reliant upon the input of volunteers.

Men's Pie Club

UK: Newcastle upon Tyne

We're all about local guys, making pies in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. At the weekly clubs you can expect to get stuck in and make your own delicious pie - don’t worry, you’ll be given all the ingredients and shown what to do by one of the MPC team. It’s usually Colin who we like to call ‘Lead Pie Man’ - we think he likes that name too. We meet in small, friendly groups of about 3-10 guys. When you arrive, someone from the team will give you a warm welcome. You don’t need any cooking skills at all (but you’ll learn a few if you fancy it). We use small camping stoves and our famous pie-makers to make top quality pies using great ingredients. You don’t need to bring anything, it’s all supplied and free of charge. Really, it’s just about being with guys like you from your local area, having a laugh and making and eating pies! We think that being together, learning to eat well and improving your physical and mental health is a great way to spend an hour each week. And so do our members! Want in? You’re in. Welcome to the Pie Club.

MenSpeak men's groups

UK: London

MenSpeak men’s groups are a safe space where men can hang out and be open and honest with each other without the pressure to compete, perform or enter the pecking order. We practice dropping the facade and being as real as we can with each other. We seek to let go of what’s been holding us back, so that we may live a more authentic and empowered life. Together we listen, laugh and grow. We are accepting, accountable and we want more out of life.

There are two types of groups:

  • Open Groups (anyone can attend) are introductory level, although there’s often significant depth and plenty of growth for all.
  • Closed Groups (same group of men for 6 months) foster greater trust and therefore openness, which leads to greater depth and learning.

MenSpeak men’s groups are currently held in London and also online.

Support: Mental Health

Mental Health Foundation

UK

We take a public mental health approach to prevention, finding solutions for individuals, those at risk and for society, in order to improve everyone’s mental wellbeing. The practical things we do:

  • Community and peer programmes; we test and evaluate the best approaches to improving mental health in communities and then roll them out as widely as possible.
  • Research; we publish studies and reports on what protects mental health and the causes of poor mental health and how to tackle them.
  • Public engagement; we give advice to millions of people on mental health. We are most well known for running Mental Health Awareness Week across the UK each year.
  • Advocacy; we propose solutions and campaign for change to address the underlying causes of poor mental health.

What we don’t do:

  • We are not an academic think tank or research institute. We generate and apply evidence in real world settings.
  • We are not a mental health service provider for when people are unwell.
  • We don't only focus on individual actions and steps.
  • We look at both the personal and societal changes that can improve and protect everyone’s mental health.

Mental Health Mates

UK

Mental Health Mates is a network of peer support groups IRL and online, run by people who experience their own mental health issues, meeting regularly to walk, connect and share without fear or judgement. With Walks across the United Kingdom, Mental Health Mates has become a thriving community that only continues to grow! We know, from personal experience, that mental illness magnifies through isolation. So whether it is talking to someone, sharing with them or simply walking beside them, we believe that getting connected is the first steps to recovery.
