Give Us A Shout

UK

Shout 85258 is a free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling to cope. We launched publicly in May 2019 and we’ve had more than 500,000 conversations with people who are anxious, stressed, depressed, suicidal or overwhelmed and who need immediate support. As a digital service, Shout 85258 has become increasingly critical since Covid-19, being one of the few mental health support services able to operate as normal at this time.

Heads Together

UK

Too often, people feel afraid to admit that they are struggling with their mental health. This fear of prejudice and judgement stops people from getting help and can destroy families and end lives. Heads Together wants to help people feel much more comfortable with their everyday mental wellbeing and have the practical tools to support their friends and family. Heads Together is a mental health initiative spearheaded by The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, which combines a campaign to tackle stigma and change the conversation on mental health with fundraising for a series of innovative new mental health services.

Support: Homelessness

Help Bristol Homeless

UK: Bristol

Help Bristol’s Homeless is a registered charity with a mission to change the face of homelessness in Bristol. Unlike many homeless charities, our ethos is that housing must come first, and then everything else comes after. Many complex factors can lead to homelessness, and while it is true that these issues need to be resolved to keep people off the street, we believe that the priority must be to get people into safe, stable and comfortable accommodation. From there, we can help them to improve their own lives and reach their potential. Free clothing and food can help people to survive homelessness, but it does not provide a way out. Programmes aimed at resolving complex issues such as addiction are vital but do not solve the day-to-day problems of being homeless. We do not believe a person suffering from homelessness can make the most of these programmes, or reach their potential when they face a daily task of finding a safe place to stay. We believe that the best way to help homeless people is to give them a secure base from which they can build their lives. We work with the support of our directors, trustees, staff and volunteers to build temporary accommodation, to be used by residents while they access the help they need to secure a permanent home. By providing users with the security and dignity that everyone deserves, we empower them to take an active role in improving their situation. Our mission is to get homeless people off the street first, and then give them a helping hand in the right direction.

Support: Forces • Veterans

Help for Heroes

UK

At Help for Heroes, we believe those who serve our country deserve support when they’re wounded. Every day, men and women have to leave their career in the Armed Forces as a result of physical or psychological wounds; their lives changed forever. We help them, and those still serving, to recover and get on with their lives. We give them physical, psychological, financial and welfare support for as long as they need it. We also support the families of wounded veterans, because they too can be affected by their loved one’s wounds.

While it takes strength to serve in the Armed Forces, it takes a different kind of strength to live life beyond injury. We believe anyone affected by their military service deserves to live a secure and healthy life with purpose. Together, we can help our wounded veterans overcome their daily battles and thrive.

Journey Man UK

UK: Bristol • Stroud • Frome • Hereford • Edinburgh • Glastonbury

So much changes in our teenage years. We support boys to become the men they want to be.In adolescence boys embark on a journey to maturity during which they will encounter changes, challenges and new experiences, many of which will shape them for life. Although each path will be different and there is no one clear way through, our ancestors knew that with support, guidance and encouragement from the older men of the community the journey to healthy masculinity was far more likely to be successful. Journeyman UK is a registered charity dedicated to supporting boys aged 13 to 17 in discovering their potential as they navigate the choppy waters of adolescence. We enable communities to skilfully take responsibility for supporting their boys and young men become the adults they want to be.
