The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this. Join the campaign to take a stand against suicide. Want to learn more about something specific that’s getting you down? As well as our helpline and web chat services, our issues pages cover a lot of the issues that we often discuss over our helpline and webchat. This information can help you understand the issues you face and show you some other organisations that can provide additional help.

"The Gentlemen’s Network is an organisation for the black male community recognising and supporting males through the transition from boy to man to gentleman. We aim to challenge the stereotypes surrounding young black/ethnic minorities whilst raising aspirations and identifying those excelling beyond their potential. We believe the demand for more male recognition and male role models in our community has grown over the years. Although this is a man’s world, we believe males also need a support system for their development in all aspects of life. Through our social media campaigns and initiatives such as ‘Made Men’ — an annual International Men’s Day celebration — we hope to develop a support network for those wanting to be successful in life, recognising their achievements and encouraging a ‘brotherly’ relationship between them especially those that may not have positive male influences within their immediate networks. We would like to create an environment where males can feel comfortable to discuss/address the issues they may face in life, receiving advice and guidance on how they can persevere and support one another. We also hope to work with adolescents to help raise their aspirations and show them that there are local role models around them.

The Lions Barber Collective is an international collection of top barbers which have come together to help raise awareness for the prevention of suicide. It all stemmed from a comment on a Facebook group and within 6 weeks we had our first appearance at The Great British Barber Bash in Liverpool where members of the pride donated their time to demonstrate their skills and raise awareness about the mission of BarberTalk as well as the charities we work alongside Papyrus and Pieta House in the UK and Ireland. The Lions Barber Collective Artistic Team will be producing an annual “LOOK BOOK” in which chosen members will donate a hair image, the much anticipated collaboration will be sold with the proceeds going to our charities and future projects, training and development. In this short time through The Lions Barber Collective huge reach on social media we have managed to create huge awareness to the cause, with that awareness ever growing and more events being planned all the time. We will attend many industry shows as well as festivals and create events, seminars and workshops to help promote BarberTalk and the work we will be doing. The Lions Barber Collective is a perfect vehicle for our BarberTalk training as we have the very best in the industry, many who have been affected by the subject in matter themselves, all with a large following ready to help spread the word and smash the taboo subject of mental health and suicide. By showing that we are willing to talk about this subject is making a huge difference already.

Male psychology is the study of the psychology of men and boys. The aim of the Male Psychology Network is to take a lead in promoting awareness, research and understanding of male psychology. This includes issues that predominantly effect men and boys, such as suicide, homelessness, addiction, imprisonment, and educational underachievement. The Male Psychology Network aims to expand our overall understanding of the full diversity of the human condition and enrich our understanding of men and women, both in their distinctions and in their common humanity. Understanding gender distinctions allows us to develop gender-appropriate psychological interventions, so that women can benefit from our activities too. We believe that in order to overcome problems that affect mainly men, we must challenge male gender blindness and the gender empathy gap which lead people to overlook problems that impact men and boys. We believe that it is for the greater public good that every man feels confident that being a man will help him to engage in constructive activities and achieve positive things for himself, his family, and the wider community. Our wider aim is for men to be seen as a vital part of the structure of any successful society, playing a key role in family life and all aspects of society. We want men to accept themselves and others around them, and to strive towards a future that benefits them and their community.

We provide a range of training courses, men’s groups and a network of support. Men come to the ManKind Project either because they want to change something or because they feel something is missing in their lives. The first training every man takes is The Adventure (The New Warrior Training Adventure) – a stand-alone, long-weekend training which often transforms a man’s life for the better. It also equips a man with the personal tools to benefit from other trainings he may choose to participate in. These include the follow-up to The Adventure, the Personal Integration Training, together with a range of other trainings designed to empower men in their leadership of themselves and others. Men may also choose to join one of the many local men’s groups in the UK and Ireland, participate in the on-line community, or come back and staff the trainings they themselves benefited from.

The OddBalls Foundation was set up in 2016 to raise awareness of Testicular Cancer. Through the Foundation we hope to make a difference to male health around the world. Testicular Cancer is around 95% curable so early diagnosis and regular checking is important. Our aim is to fit as many ‘check yourself ‘ guides into male toilets and changing rooms across the country. This will encourage males to check themselves regularly and in doing so detect any problems early. We are proud to promote that 100% of all money donated to the Foundation is used to raise awareness of Testicular Cancer. We are generously supported by our volunteers and run with no overheads or costs.
